What we focus on with our thoughts has the potential to sprout, grow and can guide us in our choices. Metaphorically, if we water the weeds (negative, painful thinking, not seeing possibilities, feeling isolated and alone, etc), then weeds overcome our lives. If we water the flowers (positive thoughts. looking for possibilities, gratefulness, sitting with the feelings, asking for support, etc.), then we grow wiser and stronger.
I love this metaphor as it assists us to remember to pay attention to our thinking and work to make a shift (e.g., test the thoughts, sit with the feelings, refocus to gratefulness or good news, seek support, etc.) when we feel like we are watering weeds. Whether we have a vase dark with weeds or beautiful with flowers, we do have some choice in the matter.
What a beautiful way to envision this practice of mindfulness. Thank you, again, for your inspiring guidance. I always learn from you!
